I’m proud to be a co-founder and director of Indiana’s kayak fishing organization, the Indiana Kayak Anglers. Friends and fellow directors Mike D., Jason H., Nathan P. and I met a few weeks ago and got most details for our 2015 tournament schedule figured out. If you have any questions, please contact me at indianayakfish dot com or find us on Facebook. Hope to see you there!
2015 IKA TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE & INFO…Following is the tentative schedule for the 2015 IKA kayak fishing tournaments. All info below is subject to change, but this will give you a good idea so you can begin planning. When further information becomes available or changes are made, we will post them on the IKA Facebook page as well as our website (www.indianakayakanglers.com), so stay tuned!
MAY 2, 2015…River Bassin’/Wildcat Creek Outfitters/IKA tournament. This is actually two tournaments. It will be an IKA bass tournament as well as a River Bassin’ Trail (http://www.riverbassintrail.com/) tournament sponsored/hosted by Wildcat Creek Outfitters. Weigh in will most likely be held at Wildcat Creek Outfitters in Zionsville, IN. More details coming soon.
JUNE 13, 2015…IKA Bass Tournament to be held south of Indianapolis, exact location to be announced in the very near future.
AUGUST 1, 2015…IKA Bass Tournament to be held on Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2015…IKA Multi-Species Tournament to be held in the northern part of the state. Exact location and more details to be determined/announced soon as well.
EARLY OR MID OCTOBER…In addition to the above tournaments, we will also hold an IKA CLASSIC in which anglers who participate in at least 3 of the above IKA tournaments are invited to compete. Other anglers may come fish at the IKA CLASSIC, but only those who meet the 3 IKA tournament requirement will be allowed to compete. Location and more details will be announced soon.
Last but not least, we also hope to host some non-competitive events where kayak anglers can get together to fish and have fun. A weekend camping/kayak fishing event is definitely being considered.
The newly formed Indiana Kayak Anglers (IKA), a statewide organization representing kayak anglers in the Hoosier state, will be holding their inaugural kayak fishing tournament September 27, 2014 at Geist Reservoir near Indianapolis.
The 2014 IKA September Shootout is a bass tournament with 100% of the proceeds and 50% of the launch fees going to the Indiana Chapter of Heroes On the Water (HOW). Registration for the tournament is $20 per applicant plus $10 launch fee (cash only, payable the morning of the event). Anglers under the age of 18 will have to have a parent/guardian present to sign the liability waiver and to accompany them on the water. Tournament fees are nonrefundable. Anglers may use any type of man-powered boat (kayak, canoe, or SUP). Each angler MUST have a valid Indiana fishing license and personal floatation devices MUST be worn during the event.
Don’t own a kayak but still want to participate? Not a problem! We’ll have a limited number of kayaks available to rent for a small fee. So bring a friend! Also, Geist Marina will have pontoon boat rides for spectators to enjoy the lake, watch their favorite angler in action and media coverage.
Registration/check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the tournament with the tournament starting at 8 a.m. All anglers wishing to submit fish to place MUST be back to the “weigh in” by 1 p.m. This is a CPR (catch, photo, release) tournament.
